Every Squadron in the Country has a Civilian Committee of between six and eleven members drawn from parents of Cadets, past parents, Royal British Legion, local Councillors etc.
These valuable people become Trustees and their prime purpose is to promote and raise the profile of the ATC in their local vicinity, support the Squadron and Cadets by finding opportunities to raise funds, eg Quiz Nights, attendance at local fairs, bag packing and bucket collections. They also apply for Grants especially if a special project is planned, eg; provision of a flight simulator or mini bus.
The Committee attend Recruitment evenings and meet parents serving tea/coffee and biscuits and also organise Dining In Nights, Presentation Evenings and Spring or Summer Balls, booking venues, sending out invitations etc.
As Trustees of the funds they are responsible for the expenditure which has to be for the benefit of the Cadets and also maintain the Asset Register which comprises the items they have purchased on behalf of the Cadets.
There are three Executive roles, the Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary but all work together as a team. We usually meet once a month but not August or December.
The work is not onerous and is often fun. We meet a lot of like- minded people and do see at first hand how the results of our hard work produce confident and happy young people having experience so many activities that their peers never have.
